This multidisciplinary science, engineering and technology base is made up of individuals who are highly specialised in their respective fields. They are geneticists, virologists, software developers, polymer chemists, applied mathematicians and industrial engineers, just to name a few.

Simiyu’s research interest includes climate change, emissions reduction, energy optimisation and solar photovoltaics.
Jan-Hendrik Grobler joined the CSIR in 1991 and initially focused on internal combustion engine research.
Lawrence has 15 years of experience related to solar PV, including yield impacts of the raw materials on cell efficiency; research and development of emitter wrap-through solar cells; manufacture and certification of next-generation solar PV modules; and the design and installation of residential PV systems in the United States of America.
Rohwer has contributed to a wide range of projects in the fields of chemical processes, pollution measurement, waste management, production assessment and energy-related materials in his more than 20 years at the CSIR.
