Young CSIR scientists present innovative research solutions to drive a culture of entrepreneurship in SA

Young researchers from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will battle it out for the best innovative research solutions at the 7th Emerging Researchers Symposium (ERS), which will be held at the CSIR International Convention Centre (ICC) in Pretoria on 12 -13 July 2022.

Young researchers from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will battle it out for the best innovative research solutions at the 7th Emerging Researchers Symposium (ERS), which will be held at the CSIR International Convention Centre (ICC) in Pretoria on 12 -13 July 2022.

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Buti Manamela, and the CSIR CEO, Dr Thulani Dlamini, will address the opening session of the symposium, where bright minds will be sharing their technology solutions, and how they support entrepreneurs in South Africa. Young researchers with the best innovative research solutions will be recognised and awarded at the Prize Giving ceremony scheduled to take place on the 13 July.

The ERS, which will be held under the theme: “Innovation in Entrepreneurship”, seeks to showcase the research work done by emerging researchers. The symposium will also include oral and poster presentations on topics ranging from smart technology, biopharmaceuticals, HIV, SARS-CoV2, laser engineering, off-grid solar photovoltaic mini grid power supply, machine learning, to food technology.

CapeBio’s CEO, Daniel Ndima, a biotechnology entrepreneur who worked closely with the CSIR to develop South Africa’s first Covid-19 diagnostic kit, will deliver the keynote address.
