This multidisciplinary science, engineering and technology base is made up of individuals who are highly specialised in their respective fields. They are geneticists, virologists, software developers, polymer chemists, applied mathematicians and industrial engineers, just to name a few.

Kebede’s current research interests lie in examining and improving the electrochemical performance of nanostructured electrode materials for energy storage systems such as lithium-ion battery, sodium-ion battery and supercapacitors.
Cho’s research interests involve data analytics of earth observation or remote sensing data and development of applications and products that support planning and decision-making for Precision agriculture, and biodiversity conservation in rural and protected landscapes.
Debba’s research interests focus on statistical and remote sensing applications. He is also managing a group of researchers whose primary focus is spatial planning and the development of advanced systems.
Stafford, a principal researcher at the CSIR and an extraordinary associate professor in chemical engineering at Stellenbosch University, applies industrial ecology to develop nature-based solutions in support of the green economy and sustainable development.
