Dr Jerolen Naidoo
Naidoo’s research interest is in applying precision medicine technologies to improved health outcomes in South Africa using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), deep learning, high content screening (HCS) and 3D tissue culture.

Naidoo is a CSIR senior researcher in bioengineering and integrative genomics. He obtained a PhD in cell biology from the Institute for Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine at the University of Cape Town, where his research focused on high content screening and its application to understanding HIV-host interactions. He then undertook a postdoctoral fellowship within the CSIR-UCT Biomedical Translational Research Initiative where he applied HCS and 3D organoid technologies to a functional precision medicine in oncology platform. His current research at the CSIR focuses on precision medicine-based applications, including the development of 3D ‘disease in a dish’ models and the role of the gut microbiome in the context of disease risk and environmental health in South Africa.
