CSIR to launch Transport Safety Laboratory: A first of its kind in Africa
The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Blade Nzimande will launch a state-of-the-art facility, the Transport Safety Lab (TSL), on Thursday, 24 October 2024, at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Blade Nzimande will launch a state-of-the-art facility, the Transport Safety Lab (TSL), on Thursday, 24 October 2024, at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
Funded by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, the facility is part of the country’s efforts to reduce road fatalities and improve transport infrastructure through scientific research, data-driven solutions, and advanced technologies. The launch marks a significant moment for South Africa’s transport sector, particularly in road safety.
The CSIR TSL aims to be the premier research facility in Africa, dedicated to enhancing transport safety through innovative research, advanced technology, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
The TSL will feature research capabilities including human factors resulting in road accidents, infrastructure safety and vehicle testing, among others.
