CSIR hosts eMicromobility Workshop at NAACAM Show 2025
The CSIR is set to participate in this year’s NAACAM Show to showcase its latest advancements in micromobility, component manufacturing, and skills development. The organisation has been involved in the development and testing of prototypes of two- and three-wheeled vehicles, partnering with local manufacturers such as Whoppa Cycles. These micromobility solutions are designed to offer sustainable and efficient transportation options, supporting the reduction of carbon footprints and the enhancement of urban mobility.
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will host an exclusive workshop on Thursday, 14 August 2025, at the NAACAM Show 2025, taking place at the Boardwalk Hotel ICC, Gqeberha.

Themed Accelerating Micromobility Solutions in South Africa's Industrial Ecosystem, the two-hour interactive session will bring together Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), component suppliers, government agencies, investors, and technology enablers. The aim is to catalyse the establishment of a national eMicromobility industry that will drive localisation, small, medium and micro enterprise (SMME) development, industrial integration, and green mobility.
Participants will have the opportunity to shape the national blueprint for a micromobility sector that delivers inclusive industrialisation, green jobs, and sustainable economic growth. Discussions will explore opportunities, challenges, and practical steps, including the formation of a national Industry Association to coordinate rollout, standards, and partnerships.
