3. Invitation for Expression of Interest: Complementary medicine derived from South Africa's indigenous plant species, S. Aethiopicus

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has rigorously investigated and conducted preclinical studies on the use of the South African indigenous plant species, Siphonochilus aethiopicus, commonly known as African ginger, in the treatment of allergic and respiratory diseases, including asthma. The CSIR has developed, optimised and patented the most effective extraction method for this plant material, enabling successful pilot-scale extractions. Additionally, the propagation programme, established in partnership with a CSIR collaborator, ensures a reliable and sustainable supply of plant material for commercialisation.

4. Call for proposal

Proposals for grant funding are hereby invited for the following two separate and independent elements within the RISP:

A. Regional Innovation Networking Platforms (RINPs)
RINPs are aimed at establishing networking platforms that bring together research, development, and innovation communities, technology SMMEs, industry, and government to foster innovation at regional (subnational) level.

B. Feasibility study or business plan support for innovation enabling mechanisms such as:
       a. Science and Technology Parks, Techno Parks, Innovation Hubs, Tech Hubs or other similar concepts.
       b. Other innovation enabling mechanisms and initiatives.
