#WomensMonth2025: Celebrating Annabelle Davids, CSIR Energy Research Centre SHEro

Annabelle Davids not only ensures that operations at the CSIR Energy Research Centre run seamlessly in her role as a group assistant, but she also provides the vital support that allows teams to focus on their mission of advancing energy research and innovation. Behind every major engagement, high-level visit and strategic partnership, her dedication and professionalism make the difference. Annabelle is recognised as a phenomenal CSIR woman and SHEro this Women's Month and beyond.

A journey of growth and impact

In the past year alone, she has been instrumental in coordinating major engagements such as the African Hydrogen Summit, the G20 Africa United meetings and the JULICH-CSIR partnership. She has also supported the success of critical capacity-building programmes for small, medium and micro enterprises across South Africa, and organised events such as the Energy Storage Partnership Stakeholder Meeting (2024) and the World Bank 10th Partner Meeting.

But Annabelle's impact goes far beyond logistics. She brings heart, humility and resilience to her work. For her, success is not measured solely by completed tasks but by creating an environment where others can thrive. "One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been seeing the tangible impact of our work - knowing that the contributions we make support a more sustainable and energy-efficient future," she shares.

She describes her motivation as being grounded in faith, family and teamwork: "My faith keeps me focused and grateful for every opportunity to make a difference. My family inspires me to give my best every day, and the passionate people I work with keep me engaged and committed."

A woman who inspires and empowers

Over the years, Annabelle has also been recognised with multiple awards, affirmations of her dedication and passion. Today, she oversees a dynamic team of 47, fostering collaboration and supporting leadership while making sure the centre continues to run smoothly. She draws inspiration from the strong women in her family, as well as colleagues across the organisation. "The women around me have taught me the value of hard work, prayer and perseverance. At the CSIR, I've had the privilege of working with phenomenal women leaders whose professionalism and empathy uplift others. Their journeys remind me that true success is about how you inspire and empower along the way," she says.

There is space for all of us to rise

Her message is clear and empowering: "Never forget the power, grace, and strength you carry within you. Believe in your voice, stand firm in your values, and support one another. There is space for all of us to rise, and when we lift each other up, we all go further."
